There’s no shortage of restomodded Porsche 911s out there and while Singer is the company most synonymous with them, there are plenty of other firms with expertise in making classic 911s better. One of them is Design Velkē based out of Cedarburg, Wisconsin and a stunning 1977 911 RSR recreation it recently built is up for sale.
From a visual standpoint, the car doesn’t look all that different from a genuine 911 RSR from the mid-1970s. In fact, only the most observant of Porsche enthusiasts would be able to notice the differences. Despite the familiar looks, an extraordinary amount of work has gone into creating the ultimate ’77 Porsche 911 and it’s hardly a surprise that it has a $359,900 asking price.
Design Velkē started out by acid dipping this 911 and then crafted all of the custom metal body panels. The entire exterior was then primed in Detroit before it was rolled into the paint shop and given the bright shade of green you see. It has been designed as a spirited driver’s car and benefits from a dizzying array of mechanical modifications.
Upgrades start with the engine which takes the form of a custom-built 3.2-liter with 98 mm Mahle cylinders, a factory crank, 911 SC cylinder heads, 911 GT3 main bearings, new chain tensioners, bespoke valve springs, stainless steel headers, and more. The engine is good for over 280 hp and also uses the oil pump from a 996 911 and comes complete with a custom-built exhaust. The car even has a custom wiring harness that’s assembled in the Netherlands and designed to be as minimalist as possible, eliminating any unnecessary wires and making everything look nice and tidy.

The owner of Design Velkē, Dave Welky, describes the car’s interior as “extremely sparse,” and that’s quite an apt description. Other than the three-spoke Momo steering wheel, custom gauges, and the period-correct seats, there’s very little going on with the cabin, fitting for a vehicle that is as focused as this one.
