The Ford F-150 Raptor R and GMC Hummer EV represent very different takes on high-performance pickup trucks but one thing they have in common is their ability to rocket off the line. So, which is quicker?
Eager to answer that question, Hoonigan brought an F-150 Raptor R and a Hummer EV to its airstrip for a series of drag races. On paper, the two match up quite nicely, despite one featuring an advanced electric powertrain and the other relying on a supercharged 5.2-liter V8.
In the case of the flagship Hummer EV, it has a trio of electric motors that combine to produce 1,000 hp. That’s significantly more than the 700 hp of the F-150 Raptor R. However, working in favor of the Ford is the fact that it weighs roughly 3,500 lbs (~1,600 kg) less than the Hummer.

The driver of the F-150 gets the better launch in the first race but once the Hummer was up and running, it quickly pulled past the Ford and finished first, despite the owner letting off the throttle before the finish line. In an effort to even the odds for the second race, the Ford is giving a car length’s head start and while it helps, it’s still not enough to stop the Hummer EV from storming past and taking a comfortable victory.
The third and final race is the most exciting. Not only was the Ford given a head start of three car lengths but the race was also held over 1,500 feet, as opposed to the 1,000 feet of the first two races. This tips things in favor of the Ford as the Hummer is limited to 106 mph (170 km/h), a figure that it can hit in less than 1,000 feet.
