It’s not all that often that a successful Dakar Rally vehicle pops up for sale but later this month, RM Sotheby’s will auction off a Peugeot 3008 DKR that’s raced around the world, including at the Dakar Rally three times.

The French car manufacturer made a splash at the 2015 Dakar Rally with the 2008 DKR and while it didn’t have a successful debut, it went on to claim the overall win in 2016. Peugeot then replaced it with the 3008 DKR in 2017 and with Stéphane Peterhansel behind the wheel, secured another victory. This particular example is not the car driven by Peterhansel and was instead driven by Cyril Despres, who finished third in the same event.

The customer PH Sport team purchased this 3008 DKR soon after the Dakar Rally and with Khalid Al Qassimi behind the wheel, secured victory at the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge in 2017. It was driven by Al Qassimi at other events in 2017 and 2018 before being driven by rally great Sebastien Loeb at the 2019 Dakar Rally, finishing third. Al Qassimi went on to pilot it at the Dubai International Baja that same year as well as the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, Jordan Baja, and Sharqiyah Baja. It also raced at the Dubai International Baja in early February 2021 and competed at the 2022 Dakar Rally but finished a disappointing 42nd.

While this 3008 DKR may only have one outright victory under its belt, it’s been driven by three well-respected racers and was recently rebuilt by PH Sport in Langres, France, meaning it is ready to return to racing. Should the next owner prefer not to race it, we’re sure it would also work well as a very expensive off-road toy to have some fun in.

Found beneath the skin is a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged diesel V6 coupled to a six-speed sequential transmission. This engine is good for 340 hp and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. RM Sotheby’s expects it to sell for between €350,000 ($375,000) and €650,000 ($695,000).
