The McLaren Artura is an impressive supercar, but it has been a bit of a problem child for the brand. Already the subject of a few recalls, the automaker must now fix another fault related to a fuel leak.
The good news is that the issue is relatively limited in nature, and affects only 269 Arturas made between July 17, 2022, and November 15, 2023. These examples, sold as 2023-2024 model year vehicles, received bad fuel pipes from one of McLaren’s sub-suppliers.
In fact, in its investigation of the issue, the automaker determined that the low pressure fuel pipes were all extruded on a single day, during a period of time that lasted just one hour. It’s not quite clear what happened at that time, but the pieces that left the factory were inconsistently thick.

As a result of the production error, the pipes don’t all meet McLaren’s specifications and, in some cases, perform poorly in “burst resistance tests” as compared to those that left the factory as parts of different batches.
Ultimately, that can lead the low pressure fuel pipe to detach, which would allow gas to leak out. Since the piece is located close to parts of the Artura that are quite hot, there are fears that a fire could result from this failure.
Fortunately, McLaren is not aware of any blazes resulting from this issue so far. However, it has been informed of nine instances of the pipe detaching and leaking fuel, so it remains a serious safety concern.
As a result, McLaren plans to reach out to owners, asking them to return their vehicles to a nearby dealership where a technician will replace the low pressure fuel pipe assembly. Unfortunately, it has not yet clarified when that process will start. In the meantime, owners with affected vehicles may smell fuel or see a warning light on their dashboard if their Artura is affected by this problem.
