A not-so-slick thief was recently arrested in Vallejo, California after being spotted casually sitting in a stolen McLaren MP4-12C painted bright yellow. According to the man, he was gifted the car by a friend but police didn’t buy that story.
The curious incident came to our attention thanks to the Vallejo Police Department. According to their report, on October 19, one of their officers noticed a man sitting in the McLaren near the intersection of Amador Street and Nebraska Street. After running the plates of the British supercar, they promptly identified it as stolen and apprehended the suspect.
The driver allegedly told police that he had been gifted the McLaren by an “unknown friend” but after police got in contact with the rightful owner of the MP4-12C, they were told that the man in question had no authority to be in possession of the car. Police arrested the man and booked him into the county jail.

Stealing a car is obviously a dumb idea but it really doesn’t seem as though this person put any thought into it at all. Had the vehicle been stolen from nearby, one would have expected the thief to leave the area, or perhaps the state, as soon as possible, especially considering the attention that a bright yellow McLaren attracts.
They could have also ditched the plates or perhaps scratched off the VIN to make it a little harder to track. Instead, the thief believed he could weasel his way out of it with a poor story he probably thought of the moment police pulled him over. Remember kids, crime never pays and this thief’s joyride has landed him in jail.
