The production version of the Renault 5 electric supermini will be unveiled in February 2024, but until then, fans of the French brand have a few interesting options based on the prototype. Among them is an R5 pedal car which is available in “The Originals Renault Store” just in time for the holidays.

The Renault 5 E-Tech Prototype pedal car is designed for children aged 3 years old and above, with a plastic body that is reminiscent of the Renault 5 prototype from 2021. The taillights are functional and the wheels mirror those of the concept which is said to closely preview the upcoming supermini.

Measuring 1,060 mm (41.7 inches) long, 580 mm (22.8 inches) wide, and 460 mm (18.1 inches) tall, the pedal car only has room for one child. The seat is furnished with leather-style and fabric materials and boasts three adjustable positions. The maximum authorized weight of 30 kg (66 pounds) clearly indicates that parents should refrain from attempting to use it – just in case you get any crazy ideas. Since it lacks an engine, the power source relies solely on the child’s kinetic energy generated by pedaling, rendering it a zero-emissions vehicle.

The 5 E-Tech Prototype pedal car retails for €295 ($323) which is more than some electrically-powered options in the kid’s-only vehicle segment. Fans of the R5 also have cheaper options in the Originals Renault e-shop including a 1/18 scale model made of resin that costs €85 ($93) and a smaller 1/64 version selling for €65 ($71). Renault also offers a pricey €400 ($438) 1/12 scale replica model of the R5 that looks like it came out of its design studio. Still, my personal favorite is the 1/43 scale model of the 1994 Renault Espace F1 concept which costs €30 ($33). The only thing missing is a scale model of the all-new 2025 Renault Twingo EV which will likely follow within the next few years.

The merchandising lineup also includes jackets, jumpers, T-shirts, caps, skateboards, and vintage wooden toys, totaling almost 400 items. Renault says that all of the products were developed in collaboration with the automotive designers working in its studio.

Renault says that its store took €100,000 in sales in just six days during the 2022 Paris Motor Show, proving that customers love affiliated products. This year, the best-sellers are the R5 Prototype scale model, the Caudron-Renault Rafale wooden aircraft, and the aforementioned electric race track. The latter measures 3.8m long and includes miniature versions of the R5 Prototype and the Renault 5 Turbo 3E restomod concept so you can race against your loved ones.

Besides the official e-shop, customers can buy the products from the “rnlt store” which is located at 33 Avenue des Champs-Elysées in Paris, from select dealerships, and from pop-up stores in special events like car shows.
