Citroen’s quirky little Ami has racked up an impressive 43,000 sales since it launched two years ago, proving that some folks aren’t bothered about speed. The micro EV delivers a grand total of 8 hp (8 PS) and is all out of puff at just 28 mph (45 kmh).

But while Ami buyers might not care for going fast, many of them still want to look like they can, so Citroen came up with the Ami Pop trim, which adds four alloy-look wheel trims, a black graphic strip under the windshield, black front and rear bumper sections, a rear spoiler that must reduce lift by about, oh, nothing whatsoever, and a set of graphics for the doors and quarter panels.

This year’s Ami Pop follows the same theme, retaining all of those features but updating the stickers with a more vibrant look that adds a yellow element, which is also carried through to the interior courtesy of a yellow bag hook. Hardly earth-shattering changes, we know, but there is one more styling tweak that completely transforms the Ami.

The latest Pop also gets a pair of dark headlamp bezels that are designed to complement the other front-end trim pieces. We’ve already seen something similar on the door-free Ami Buggy and Ami Tonic, but this is the first time they’ve been available on the Pop. And once you’ve seen the new face, the old version without the bezels looks so wrong, like seeing Enzo Ferrari without his trademark shades.

Citroen has introduced some functional changes to the Ami, too, moving the driving selector from the door sill to the center console to improve the ergonomics. That tweak places the selector alongside the all-important USB socket and ventilation controls and will be rolled out to other versions of the Ami in early 2024.
