The Rivian R1T has plenty of innovative features, none more intriguing than the slide-out camp kitchen hidden within the pickup’s gear tunnel, positioned between the cab and the bed. It appears as though the car manufacturer is working on another intriguing accessory for the gear tunnel, this time a slide-out projector and display.
Details about the new feature were discovered through a recent trademark application made with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. There are other car manufacturers that have started experimenting with massive interior screens perfect for movies, like the recent Skyhome electric sedan, but this is the first time we’ve seen a car brand toying with the idea of a projector like this.

Images provided as part of the trademark application show that the setup will be housed in a custom-built drawer that slides in and out of the gear tunnel. This draw includes a small leg to stand on and houses the projector, wireless speakers, a large roll-up projector screen. CarBuzz reports that the array also includes a mirror to tweak the image being projected and the speakers could be removed and positioned around the viewer for an epic surround-sound experience.
The patent also reveals that everything would be powered by the R1T’s battery pack. Additionally, we can see that the projector can be removed from the drawer and positioned elsewhere on the truck, like in the frunk and then directed to a screen at the rear of a second Rivian. Much like the camp kitchen, it appears that everything can be easily stowed in the gear tunnel.
Rivian’s camp kitchen was originally a $5,000 option but that price was increased to $6,750 before it was discontinued. It is currently undergoing a redesign. The slide-out projector and screen probably won’t be cheap but we’d be surprised if it commands as much as the kitchen when (and if…) it reaches production.
