The motorsport-derived Ford Mustang GTD is going to set back buyers around $300,000, a staggering sum for any Ford, let alone with a Mustang badge. While there is no aftermarket tuner offering anything close to the GTD, we do think that the limited-run Super Snake Speedster from Shelby is just as cool and much more affordable.
Shelby lifted the veil on the Super Snake Speedster back in early 2021 and has built just 98 examples. A 2022 example painted in a simple shade of Oxford White with Azure Blue stripes has been listed up for sale through Bring a Trailer and it’s certainly quite the looker. As cool or ridiculous as the GTD? Probably not but still much more special than a run-of-the-mill ‘Stang.

Like the standard version of the Super Snake, the Speedster from Shelby has undergone a raft of modifications to its engine. These start with the fitment of a Whipple supercharger, a new cooling system, a performance intake, a billet throttle body, high-performance fuel injectors, and a Shelby-tuned Borla exhaust system. The engine is good for 825 hp, some 65 hp more than the Shelby GT500 and on par with Ford’s promise of delivering the Mustang GTD with “over 800 hp.”
Shelby has then crafted a special Speedster-style tonneau cover for the Ford, making it look much more special than a typical Mustang Convertible and providing it with a proper exotic feel. Other exterior changes made include redesigned front and rear fascias, a custom hood, and widened fenders. A set of 20-inch forged aluminum wheels and beefed-up Brembo brakes have also been installed. Tempted buyers will also be pleased to know that Shelby has also upgraded the suspension to make the car more capable on a racetrack.
The listing reveals the car had an original price of $151,265 including all the Shelby modifications.
