The surging value of older generations of the Nissan Skyline GT-R in recent years has resulted in a heightened demand for their meticulous restoration. One of the top destinations for such work is Garage Yoshida in Osaka, Japan, renowned for its specialization in R32, R33, and R34 restoration projects. Their incredible attention to detail often results in delivering vehicles in conditions that surpass their original state.
The shop is owned by Yoshida San, who has 14 years’ worth of experience working on GT-Rs. The small team of 4 people ensures that every project gets the attention it deserves, no matter how bad it looks in the beginning. After all, GT-R prices keep climbing making every example worth saving. This is why the shop is packed with vehicles, most of which come from international clients.
The Garage Yoshida was highlighted in a new video by Hagerty, presented by world-class automotive photographer Larry Chen who is the proud owner of a blue R34 GT-R. Chen was so impressed with the work of Yoshida San that he asked him to restore his own car.

A full restoration starts from the bare chassis which receives an anti-rust dip treatment just like in automotive factories. The chassis is then measured and if something is off it gets straightened to perfection based on Nissan’s original specifications.
Sourcing spare parts for the classic R32, R33, and R34 models has become increasingly challenging, prompting Yoshida San to take matters into his own hands. He crafts his own stamped body panels and components using high-strength steel, often surpassing the original stock strength. Additionally, he diligently stockpiles various parts, including glass panels and rubber moldings, for forthcoming projects.
The commitment to precision is exemplified by Yoshida San’s creation of a new blue shade for the R34, an amalgamation of the two factory-spec paints for metal and plastic components. This modern adaptation ensures longevity while retaining the authentic aesthetic.
Despite his accomplishments, the 43-year-old Yoshida San has committed to restoring just 100 more cars during his lifetime before retirement. Certain projects demand extensive time and dedication, such as the restoration of a wrecked R32 chassis with significant sentimental value to the owner, a task expected to span at least 2 years. As you might have guessed, Yoshida San is also a GT-R owner, with his personal R32 being configured as a 650 hp track car with plenty of tasteful modifications.
