Jeep just dropped the news that the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are down a couple of cylinders for 2024. In truth, the available V8s from previous model years weren’t long for this world anyway. Now, the automaker confirms that the entire Wagoneer family gets a twin-turbo inline-six from here on out. Ultimately, this confirms what we already suspected but there’s one other small change coming to the 2024 Grand Wagoneer lineup.
All the way back in September, we told you that it appeared as if Jeep would axe the V8s from the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer lineups for good. The normal Wagoneer used to be available with a 5.7-liter HEMI while the Grand Wagoneer was available with a beefy 6.4-liter HEMI. Jeep just confirmed that neither are available for the 2024 models.

Instead, the Wagoneer will come standard with the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged Hurricane inline-six that makes 420 hp (313 kW) and 468 lb-ft (635 Nm) of torque. Jeep says that it’s up to 15% more efficient than the outgoing V8 which is important when you’re driving something that doesn’t get amazing fuel economy to begin with.
The Grand Wagoneer is also going inline-six-only for 2024. It gets a bit more power though, 510 hp (372 kW) to be exact, along with 500 lb-ft (678 Nm) of torque. The other change to the GW lineup is that the Series II trim from last year is gone in favor of a new mid-level trim called Obsidian. It’ll come standard with Jeep’s Obsidian package which includes piano black trim, black interior accents, gloss black exterior trim, and 22-inch polished wheels with black inserts.
Beyond those adjustments, the Wagoneer family continues on unchanged which is a good thing overall. In our time with it earlier this year, we found it to be pretty similar to a private jet for the public road. It’s good to see that Jeep isn’t trying to fix something that isn’t broken.
