Alfa Romeo is gearing up to introduce the all-new Milano next year and it promises to become the brand’s first “Sport Urban Vehicle.” It will join the Tonale and Stelvio, giving the Italian brand a crossover-focused lineup.

However, in a recent interview, Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato said, “I don’t want to become an SUV brand, even if the world is switching to SUVs.”

The executive went on to tell Autocar that sedans are primed for a comeback as aerodynamics and electrification go hand-in-hand. He went on to say, “You will have a Giulia in the Alfa Romeo range – and not only that, because the next steps we are working on are: what is the answer to the GTV, and what could be the answer to the Duetto?”

That implies the coupe and roadster could be revived, but Imparato cautioned that nothing is “locked and validated for the moment.” That’s probably a wise move as, in 2018, Alfa Romeo confirmed the GTV would return with a torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system and more than 600 hp (447 kW / 608 PS).

Like many plans of the FCA era, nothing came of the GTV. It, alongside the 8C successor, were unceremoniously axed the following year.

Getting back to the redesigned Giulia and Stelvio, Imparato suggested the design of both models has been completed and they’re gearing up to prepare their Cassino plant to build them. Little is known about the upcoming EVs, but the executive has previously suggested the Giulia could combine elements of sedans and wagons.

The models are slated to ride on the STLA Medium platform and offer a WLTP range of up to 435 miles (700 km). The entry-level Giulia could have around 345 hp (257 kW / 350 PS), while the Veloce should have approximately 790 hp (589 kW / 801 PS). We can also expect a Quadrifolio variant with around 986 hp (736 kW / 1,000 PS).
