While many believe that the Ford Bronco Raptor is the ultimate version of this hugely popular off-roader, those with the means can actually obtain the keys to a non-street-legal version conceived as the ultimate desert racer. The Bronco we’re talking about is the DR or Desert Racer.
Ford introduced this wild take on the Bronco in late 2021, producing just 50 examples in collaboration with Multimatic Motorsports in Ontario, Canada. It came with a suggested manufacturer retail price (MSRP) of approximately $295,000 before any pricey options and dealer markups, and an exceptionally distinct example has recently been listed for sale online.
This particular Bronco DR, which is up for auction on Bring a Trailer (BaT), was manufactured in October 2023 and stands out from all others due to its color-shifting Mystichrome paintwork. This unique paint job features shades of blue, green, and purple, resembling what one would expect from a limited-run McLaren rather than an off-roader like this. The bodywork is entirely distinct from the standard road-going Bronco, and it’s adorned with a pair of LED light bars and Rigid Industries rock lights.

To transform the Bronco into the ultimate off-roader, Ford and Multimatic equipped it with 17-inch wheels shod in 37-inch BFGoodrich tires, new aluminum lower control arms, remote-reservoir adjustable spool valve dampers, and hydraulic bump stops at both the front and rear. All up, the Bronco DR has 15.8-inches of suspension travel at the front and 17.4-inches at the rear.

Power comes courtesy of a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 with super loud exhaust headers making “at least 400 horsepower” coupled to a ten-speed automatic transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and independent electronically locking front and rear 4.70:1 differentials.
The cabin is stripped-out like any other race car. Key features include the Recaro Pro Racer seats clad in black vinyl, Sparco safety harnesses, a MoTec data acquisition system, a two-way radio, and an intercom system.
With just four days left as of the time of writing, the highest bid on Bring a Trailer currently stands at $188,000, but it will surely continue to rise until the auction ends. What do you think this unique Bronco DR will ultimately sell for?
