Chevrolet introduced the fourth-generation Equinox earlier today and it ushers in a number of important changes. Besides sporting a rugged new design and a classier cabin, it features additional equipment and a streamlined lineup.
Starting with the latter, Chevrolet is simplifying things as there are only three trims known as LT, RS, and Activ. The old LS and Premier are history, while the company also decided to eschew trim levels such as LT1 and LT2.
The simplification extends beyond trims as the 2025 Equinox comes far better equipped. We’ll learn full details closer to launch, but even the entry-level LT has adaptive cruise control, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. That’s on top of an 11-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.3-inch infotainment system with Google built-in.
During a preview earlier this month, Chevrolet officials told us they were “proud” the entry-level model comes so nicely equipped. They also explained a number of customers were looking for heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, so they decided to make them standard equipment.
This is a significant change as the outgoing Equinox LS didn’t even offer heated front seats. Furthermore, adaptive cruise control used to be part of a $1,200 Safety and Infotainment package on the Equinox LT.
First Look: 2025 Chevy Equinox Embraces Tech And An Off-Road Attitude
While the extra equipment will likely cause prices to climb, Chevrolet officials told us the model will continue to be competitive with rivals. They also noted the top three reasons that consumers choose Equinox are price and value, quality, and the dealership sales experience.
Officials went on to say they expect the LT trim to appeal to the ‘heart of the market,’ while the RS should continue to be popular with consumers. However, the real star is the new Activ trim, which has an outdoor attitude thanks to unique styling and 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires.
Chevrolet crossovers have been on a roll lately and the company is expecting the Equinox to extend that trend. In particular, SUV sales were up 35% last year as the Trailblazer enjoyed record sales while the Trax is “one of the hottest vehicles in the industry.” There’s little doubt this success will continue thanks to the redesigned Equinox and Traverse as well as the facelifted Tahoe and Suburban.
