Are you in the market for a classic estate with distinctive looks, solid performance, and a luxurious cabin that won’t break the bank? Well, this 1973 AMC Hornet X Gucci Sportabout could be perfect.

The special Hornet Sportabout is the result of AMC joining forces with Italian design house Gucci. Approximately 4,800 examples were produced, each outfitted with a special interior that was radically different than the regular Hornet. This example has been listed up for auction through Bring a Trailer having previously been sold on the auction site for $22,000 in July last year.

Adorning the exterior of the car is a flamboyant shade of Fairway Green that has been contrasted with numerous white accents, including the strikes running down both sides and across the tailgate. It also sits on polished 14-inch five-spoke wheels with Cooper Cobra Radial tires and even includes Gucci badges on the fenders.

For as over-the-top as the exterior is, it is nothing compared to the cabin. All of the seats are clad in a combination of green, beige, and red vinyl that collectors are going to either love or hate. The dashboard, door panels, and pillars are also trimmed in green and there is even an intricate headliner with a chequered pattern and finished in green. The seller notes in the Bring a Trailer auction that the air conditioning system does not work, nor turns the horn or the tuning knob of the radio.

Then there’s the engine. This AMC Hornet Sportabout has been fitted with a larger 5.9-liter V8 featuring a four-barrel carburetor, chrome valve covers, and a three-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels.
