Suspects try all sorts of tactics to outrun police, but the strategy in this story is somewhat soggy in its execution. Two DUI suspects decide to attempt to evade authorities by driving a truck into Lake Michigan. Both ended up in police custody a little wetter for wear.
The incident began on Woodmere Avenue in Traverse City, Michigan. There, police attempted to pull over the white Ford F-150 pickup truck driver for erratic driving. Instead of pulling over, the driver sped away and police began a pursuit. According to Lt. Jon Morgan of the Grand Traverse Sheriff’s Office, the driver blew through multiple stop signs but ultimately came to a stop.

At that point, the driver jumped out and ran away. As one officer pursued the suspect on foot a passenger in the pickup truck jumped into the driver’s seat and drove away. Traverse City Police Department officers followed the truck to Clinch Park Marina where the driver went down a boat dock and straight into West Grand Traverse Bay. It’s unclear what exactly the driver thought would happen once he got into the chilled water.
Regardless, police report that they captured both drivers, each 23 years old, and charged them with fleeing and eluding, and operating under the influence. Authorities didn’t release the names of the two drivers or the additional passengers that were evidently in the truck according to UpNorthLive. They also didn’t report on why exactly these two drivers both decided to run in the first place.
