We have bad news for a handful of 2024 Nissan Altima owners as the car is the subject of a new recall related to the electronic power steering unit. While the car manufacturer is not aware of any warranty claims, accidents, or injuries related to the fault, owners would be wise to have their vehicle fixed as soon as possible.

Nissan has revealed that one or more of the bolts connecting the electronic power steering unit to the steering rack on 2024 Altima models may not have been tightened to the correct specifications. Consequently, the repeated vibrations caused by turning the steering wheel could cause the bolts to loosen which may impact the connection between the EPS unit and the steering rack.

If this is to occur then the steering gear could lock up and drivers may lose control of the steering. That increases the risk of a crash and this is a fault that drivers should take seriously.

A total of 5 Nissan Altima models from the 2024 model year are impacted, all of which were built between September 26, 2023, and September 28, 2023.

Nissan was alerted to a potential problem on November 8, 2023, when the supplier of the steering gear assembly was alerted to an incident involving another vehicle with the same system it supplies to Nissan. An issue was found to be present in the tool used to make the steering gear assemblies and 6 Altima models were found to be impacted, including one in Dubai that was stopped at a port.

The five owners of the 2024 Altimas involved in the recall will be alerted from February 9, 2024. Dealers will replace the steering gear assembly free of charge.
