Authorities in Lemay, Missouri have arrested a 30-year-old driver following what has to be one of the slowest police chases in history. Indeed, the whole thing looks like a scene from a comedy movie.
Details about what triggered the chase are limited but at some stage, police quickly stopped the progress of the Kia Optima by deploying a set of spike stripes. While this blew out all four of the Kia’s tires, the driver wasn’t willing to pull over and surrender and continued driving, albeit at a very, very slow pace.
A video captured by Chris Goetz, a manager at Phil’s Tire Shop on South Broadway in Lemay, shows the Optima cruising down the street with an undercover Dodge Charger police cruiser, a Ford Mondeo, a Chevy sedan, and even a Ford Explorer police car in pursuit. The vehicles cannot be traveling more than 2 or 3 mph and at one stage, one of the police officers starts to wave to bystanders on the side of the road. The video also shows that a woman was accompanying the Kia driver in the passenger seat.

While speaking with Riverfront Times, Goetz said he initially thought the convoy was a funeral procession. After the ‘fleeing’ Optima passed the tire shop, it went around the block and cruised past for a second time.
Authorities finally decided to end the chase and bust the driver roughly six miles from the tire shop. While police have confirmed the 30-year-old driver has been taken into custody, they have not yet stated what charges he is facing.
