Two businesses in Fredericksburg, Virginia, CarPlug and Auto Chiefs, are located in the same building. On Sunday, January 7th, police responded to that building for a business alarm. When they arrived they found a man who allegedly tunneled from one to the other in an effort to steal a car.
That man is Jerrylee Adams and police say that when they arrived he was making his way to the vehicle he had targeted. Allegedly he told police that he was there to do some drywall work for Auto Chiefs before he bought a car from CarPlug. In fact, police say that he had a hat and pen from the business to corroborate his story.
Of course, when police called the business owners of both Auto Chiefs and CarPlug neither had any idea of who Adams was. Authorities say that Adams initially tried to break into Auto Chiefs with a crowbar and then when that failed, he gained access to CarPlug through a broken garage door panel.

Then, according to police, he literally tunneled through the wall between the businesses. That led to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office calling this whole fiasco the Shawshank Burglary as an homage to the famous movie The Shawshank Redemption.
Now, Adams is facing a litany of charges including statutory burglary, attempted grand larceny, larceny, possession of burglary tools, and two counts of destruction of property. He’s now in jail without bond after what police called a “contentious” hearing with a local magistrate.
