A pair of images have leaked that appear to show the long-awaited BMW i5 Touring ahead of its impending launch. The Touring version of the car will land roughly 12 months after the sedan and while it may not look as sleek as the sedan, it will be more practical and could prove popular in select markets.
These photos were shared on Instagram by wilcoblok and while they show an i5 Touring, the combustion-powered 5-Series Touring will look pretty much identical. The i5 in question is painted in an intriguing shade of green and appears to have been snapped during an official photoshoot. No photos showing the front of the car had surfaced at the time of writing.

From the rear, we can see that the design of the i5 Touring matches up nicely with the patent images that were published late last year. Beyond the entire shape of the car’s rear end being revised when compared to the sedan, we can see that the waistline curves upwards towards the rear of the car and ends with the trademark Hofmeister kink. There are also a pair of gloss black roof rails.
Unfortunately, it does not appear as though the rear window of the i5 Touring can be opened independently of the tailgate. We also can’t help but feel the rear fascia looks a little naked with the minuscule spoiler stretching out from the roof and think it would look much nicer if this spoiler was a little larger.
Technical details and specifications for the i5 Touring and 5-Series Touring are not yet known but it is reasonable to assume the former will be offered with the same single- and dual-motor setups as the sedan while the 5-Series will be available with a variety of mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid four- and six-cylinder engines. There’s a possibility that the next-generation M5 could also be sold as a Touring with upwards of 789 hp.
