The Hennessey Venom F5 is a car that almost sounds like vaporware. But it isn’t. It’s an American-made hypercar, packed with 1,817 horsepower (1,352 kW), and theoretically capable of going over 300 mph (386 km/h). Now, the second one ever completed is about to be available to the highest bidder. Strangely enough, the owner might even end up losing money on it.

This is a 2022 model year Hennessey Venom F5 and it’s finished in Lausanne Silver with an Ink Leather interior. Of the 24 Venom F5s that Hennessey will make this is only the second and currently has just 229 miles on the odometer. That means that its 6.6-liter twin-turbo V8 has barely been broken in.

Perhaps it could end up propelling the car to over 300 miles per hour at some date in the future. John Hennessey himself recently said that the team would be reigniting its quest for that figure and to date, the F5 doesn’t have a confirmed actual top speed. Even if this car never goes 300 it’s unquestionably capable of reaching extra-legal speeds in less than five seconds at full throttle.

It’ll be up for sale along with other exceptional cars like a real 1966 Shelby 427 S/C Cobra, a Lamborghini Sian, and a Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport. Those three cars are worth an estimated $10,000,000. Somehow, each on its own appears likely to trade hands for more than this super-rare Hennessey.

Interestingly, the MSRP stated on the Venom F5’s window sticker is $2,487,000. None of its options have prices listed but if that figure is even close to accurate it appears as though the original owner might be about to take a loss. Broad Arrow auctions have a guidance price of just $1,200,000 to $1,650,000.

It’s absolutely wild to think that one might lose seven figures on a super-rare hypercar with less than 300 miles on the odometer. Of course, it could go for well above its MSRP. We’ll find out sometime on the weekend of March 1st and 2nd.
