The BYD Dolphin has been updated for the 2024 model year in China and while it looks the same, it gets new battery options, greater range, and has a lower starting price. That sounds like a win for buyers.

Found at the base of the 2024 Dolphin range is the Vitality. This version has been priced from just 99,800 yuan (~$13,800) and comes equipped with a 32 kWh battery pack rated at 302 km (188 miles) of range. It also comes standard with a 94 hp (70 kW) motor driving the front wheels.

Those seeking more range can opt for the Dolphin Free, priced from 112,800 yuan or (~$15,600). This version also has a 94 hp (70 kW) motor but is equipped with a 45 kWh battery, enough to give it 420 km (261 miles) of range on the Chinese testing cycle.

A more well-equipped version of this model, dubbed the Fashion, launches with the same specifications but is priced from 119,800 yuan (~$16,600). Topping out the 2024 Dolphin range is the Knight, starting at 129,800 yuan ($18,030) with a more powerful 174 hp (130 kW) motor, a 45 kWh battery pack, and 401 km (249 miles) of range.

Like the outgoing Dolphin, the new one will be available with a 60 kWh pack but this version has yet to launch. When it does, it should be good for 520 km (323 miles) of range.

A handful of upgrades have been made to the interior of the Dolphin. For example, it comes with ventilated front seats, a 50W wireless phone charging pad, and a USB-C charging port. BYD has also equipped the Chinese version of the electric hatchback with independent suspension like the current model sold in Europe. Exterior changes are limited to new color options and revised wheels.

It is not yet clear when the 2024 Dolphin will launch in markets outside of China.
