The all-electric BYD Yuan UP has been fully revealed in a host of official images out of China and given how successful the larger Atto 3 / Yuan Plus has been, it has the potential to be a very strong seller for the brand.

The vehicle forms part of BYD’s burgeoning Dynasty range of vehicles and adopts its Dragon Face design language. Compared to the Atto 3, the Yuan UP has a slightly more rugged design, somewhat similar to the approach adopted by Jeep for the small Avenger.  Given the quirky looks, we suspect the Yuan UP could prove quite popular among younger buyers.

Official specifications out of China reveal that the Yuan UP is 4,310 mm (170 inches) long, 1,830 mm wide (72 inches), and stands 1,675 mm (65.9 inches) tall with a 2,620 mm (103.1-inch) wheelbase. The front fascia is characterized by angular headlights with LED DRLs incorporated neatly within them while the lower part of the bumper is finished in black and incorporates two small air inlets.

BYD’s Cute Yuan UP SUV Starts At Just $14,000 With 94 HP And 32 kWh Battery

Viewed from the side, the Yuan UP somewhat reminds us of the Mercedes-Benz GLB with its short front and rear overhangs, the roof line, the thick D-pillars, and the small rear window. Other noteworthy elements of the small SUV’s design include the flush door handles, the black fenders, and the black rocker panels. Found at the rear of the vehicle is an LED light bar, taillights with a particularly intricate signature, and a silver diffuser.

Car News China states that BYD will sell the SUV with a 94 hp (70 kW) electric motor or a 174 hp (130 kW) electric motor, similar to the options for the BYD Dolphin. Shoppers will also have two battery packs to choose from, consisting of a 32 kWh pack and a larger 45.1 kWh pack. The range of the small SUV will vary between 301 km (187 miles) and 401 km (249 miles) and prices should start at around 100,000 yuan or $14,000.
