Key specifications for the BYD YangWang U7 sedan sedan have surfaced online, following the recent release of the electric car’s initial photos by the Chinese automaker.

Up until this point, we knew that the YangWang U7 would have over 1,000 hp and do battle with the Tesla Model S Plaid. Now, details shared online by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology have revealed that the car will hit the market with four electric motors combining to produce 1,287 hp. To put that into perspective, the Model S Plaid has 1,025 hp, while the current BMW M5 Competition, 600 horsepower.

Providing the four electric motors with their juice is a 135.5 kWh LFP battery. While the car has monumental levels of power, this huge battery should give it as much as 497 miles (800 km) of range on the Chinese cycle, although the entry-level version will be capped at 446 miles (720 km).

While acceleration figures are currently undisclosed, Chinese media sources suggest that the car is capable of reaching a top speed of 168 mph (270 km/h), which if true, would be notably less than the Tesla’s 200 mph (322 km/h).

Like many other EVs on the market, the design team behind the YangWang U7 set out to make it as aerodynamically efficient as possible. In fact, it has a drag coefficient of just 0.195 Cd.

Numerous images of the car’s exterior have been published but as of yet, we don’t know what the interior will look like. Nevertheless, we suspect that the cabin will come loaded with screens just like the U8 SUV while also featuring plenty of soft materials and plush accents.

We also know that the YangWang U7 will hit the market with a lidar sensor and should include Level 3 semi-autonomous driving capabilities.
