Compared with some other automakers, Genesis – and its Kia and Hyundai brothers – is frustratingly good at keeping its prototypes covered up. While rival brands are content to slap on some swirly wrap, the Koreans keep everything bagged-up right until its time to switch the stage lights on.
But even though this facelifted G80 Electrified sedan looks like its wearing some kind of ballistics vest that disguises much of the lower half of the bodywork, it can’t stop us knowing what we’ll see when the covers come off later this year. That’s because Genesis has already unveiled the facelifted ICE-powered 2025 G80, and unlike Mercedes, whose electric EQE looks nothing like the combustion E-Class, the two G80s are essentially the same car.

These images show that the Electrified will once again feature a flush grille with a simulated mesh finish to distinguish it from the 2.5-liter and 3.5-liter petrol cars, but the EV will adopt the same micro-lens headlights and features subtly revised bumpers seen on the four- and six-cylinder models.
Just what, if any, changes Genesis has in store for the electric drivetrain, we don’t yet know, but technology and expectations in the EV market are growing so rapidly that we wouldn’t be surprised if the firm improved on the current bi-motor Electrified’s 365 hp (370 PS) power output and the 282-mile (454 km) range offered by its 87.2 kWh battery. The zero-emissions G80 is built on the Hyundai-Kia M3 platform rather than the E-GMP dedicated electric vehicle architecture used by the GV60, but it still employs 800 volt charging tech.
One improvement we can be sure the G80 Electrified will benefit from is the 27-inch OLED display fitted to 2025 gas models. The new one-piece screen replaces the 12.3- and 14.5-inch instrument cluster and infotainment system that’s been part of the G80 interior since 2020.
