Ferrari will launch its first all-electric model in 2025 and while limited details about this model are known, it appears the Italian marque is benchmarking it against one of the finest high-performance EVs out there, the Tesla Model S Plaid.
YouTuber Varryx recently headed to Ferrari’s factory in Maranello, Italy to see what the brand is up to and while there, noticed an engineer testing a white Model S Plaid adorned with plenty of data logging equipment. While the clip only shows the Tesla being driven slowly in and out of the factory, the presence of a Tesla at the home of Ferrari alone is interesting.

As mentioned, not much is known about Ferrari’s forthcoming EV and we don’t even know what form it will take. All Ferrari has said is that it will be a “sports car” but that’s quite a generic term nowadays and doesn’t narrow down the possibilities. We think it is unlikely that it will be a four-door sedan to match the Model S Plaid but Ferrari’s engineers must think there is something to learn from the Tesla’s expertise in EV technologies and may be testing it before stripping it down and analyzing many of its key components.
A patent filing application made by Ferrari last year indicated that it may give its first EV an intriguing sound “reproduction device” that could amplify the sound from the electric motors and funnel it out of a speaker near the rear axle. In its application, Ferrari noted that the sound generated by a traditional internal combustion engine adds to the “driving pleasure” and it is trying to capture this same essence with its EV.
Ferrari has established a new “e-building” site at its Maranello headquarters that will handle the production of the new EV as well as a series of hybrid vehicles.
