Zeekr’s compelling range of battery-electric vehicles is set to launch in Mexico as parent company Geely looks to expand its global presence across the EV industry.

Geely revealed in a Hong Kong Stock Exchange filing on February 7 that it has reached a vehicle purchase agreement with Zeekr. In addition to introducing the firm’s vehicles to Mexico, it will also bring all the necessary after-sales parts and accessories for resale.

The Mexican government wants to see hybrid and electric vehicles account for 50% of the local market by 2040 or earlier and Zeekr’s range of models will help it pursue this goal. Geely’s filing does not specify which Zeekr models it intends on selling in Mexico but the 001 shooting brake and the X SUV are probably the two most likely candidates. It’s certainly possible that the new 007 sedan is on the cards, as could be the 009 MPV.

Despite only being founded in 2021 and introducing its first model in April of that year, Zeekr has managed to establish itself as one of the most compelling new EV brands on the market. It managed to sell 12,537 vehicles in January and hopes to end 2024 having delivered 230,000 vehicles, roughly double what it managed in 2023.

The Zeekr 007 is shaping up to be a particularly crucial model for the brand. Generous subsidies in China mean it starts at just 229,900 yuan (~$32,300) despite coming loaded with technologies including an 800-volt architecture and the ability for its battery pack to be charged at up to 500 kW. That means 500 km (311 miles) of range can be added in just 15 minutes. Car News China reports that Zeekr had secured roughly 25,000 orders for the 007 by the end of January.
