US-based tuner Hennessey introduced the H700 package for the drop-top C8 Corvette Stingray, offering a Z06-beating 708 hp (528 kW / 718 PS). The modified sportscar was put to the test in a drag race against the Tesla Cybertruck and predictably prevailed, benefiting from the notable difference in weight and size.

A drag race between a Corvette and a full-size truck would sound absurd a few decades ago but EVs have changed the automotive landscape when it comes to straight-line performance. In addition, the Tesla Cybertruck is the dual-motor AWD version with 600 hp (447 kW / 608 PS) rather than the tri-motor Cyberbeast with 845 hp (630 kW / 857 PS).

In any case, the Cybertruck’s 6,603 lbs (2,995 kg) weight is almost double the 3,467 lbs (1,576 kg) figure of the C8 Corvette Convertible, making it an unfair battle. It also helps that this particular Corvette has 44 percent more power than the stock version courtesy of the Hennessey H700 kit.

The H700 upgrade which was already offered for the closed-roof C8 Corvette Stingray, is now available for all hard-top convertible models. It adds a high-performance supercharger with an air-to-water intercooler, a high-flow air induction system, an upgraded fuel system, a cat-back exhaust system, and a re-calibrated gearbox.

As a result, the modified 6.2-liter V8 produces 708 hp (528 kW / 718 PS) and 638 lb-ft (865 Nm) of torque, representing a significant increase over the stock 490 hp (365 kW / 497 PS) and 465 lb-ft (630 Nm). Optional goodies include an active-valve exhaust, and a new set of forged 19-inch alloy wheels finished in gloss black, matte gunmetal, or satin silver. The new shoes can be combined with a special livery, complementing the standard “Hennessey” and “H700” badges.

Hennessey didn’t announce pricing for the H700 upgrade but the equivalent package for the closed-roof C8 Corvette Stingray costs between $34,950 and $49,950.
