Lucid Motors may be facing challenges in terms of stock prices and car deliveries amidst slowing EV sales, but the company is poised to receive a capital injection that doubles as a free advertisement for its vehicles. We’re referring to a forthcoming fleet of fully electric police cars, all based on the Lucid Air sedan, scheduled to hit the streets in Saudi Arabia.
The first-ever police vehicle from Lucid was unveiled on February 4th at the World Defense Show in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. The conversion of the Lucid Air features a black and white police livery and additional equipment on its roof. What looks like an oversized setup of siren and strobe lights doubles as a carrier for a police drone. With the press of a button, the upper casing opens, enabling the drone to launch.

A single photo of the vehicle hiding under a transparent cover was published on X (ex-Twitter) by local media outlet Saudi Project. This was followed by a more revealing video of the police cruiser, uploaded on X by the Saudi Arabia Ministry of the Interior.
While we don’t have photos of the interior, it’s likely that Lucid modified the cabin to better suit the needs of law enforcement officers. These modifications often include extra screens and a mobile radio device, although it’s possible that some of these elements have been integrated into the large infotainment display.

In any case, the World Defense Show is taking place from February 4th to 8th, so we anticipate more photos of the EV to become available online soon, along with additional information about the fleet.
The news does not come as a surprise, given that Saudi Arabia’s sovereign fund holds up to 60 percent of Lucid Motors’ shares. The local government has entered into an agreement with Lucid to purchase up to 100,000 EVs over the next decade, with the Public Investment Fund (PIF) having invested $10 billion in the automaker.
Lucid Motors – which has the only EV factory in the region – is expected to play an important role in Saudi Arabia’s transition from fossil fuels to battery-powered cars, alongside a state-owned startup called Ceer, a joint venture between PIF and Foxconn. For now, Lucid’s factory in Saudi Arabia is limited to reassembling vehicles coming as kits from the Arizona plant in the U.S.
