Peugeot’s new e-3008 has already won praise from reviewers for its long range, mechanical refinement, and stylish cabin, with the criticisms mostly being limited to its average rear seat space and value compared with Tesla’s all-conquering Model Y.

But any potential buyers put off by the 3008’s shortage of rear room will soon have another option in the form of its big brother, the e-5008, and its ICE-powered 5008 twin. Both ride on the same Stellantis STLA Medium platform, but the 5008 duo benefits from a wheelbase stretch that makes room for an optional third row of seats.

Peugeot gave us a sneak look at those additional chairs via a social media teaser this week, along with glimpses of other interior details of the 5008, including the panoramic i-Cockpit dashboard. We’ve already seen the same basic system in the 3008 where half of a single 21-inch curved display is given over to digital gauge pack duties, and the other half contains the infotainment screen.

Only the higher 3008 trim levels get the panoramic i-Cockpit system, lower grades making do with a pair of 10-inch screens, but Peugeot might choose to make the fancy display standard across the entire 5008 line. A badge on the base of the flat-bottomed (and topped) steering wheel tells us the car in the teaser video is a posh GT trim car, something backed up by the smart part-leather, part-suede-effect upholstery.

We’re still waiting to hear exactly what powertrains Peugeot has lined up for the 5008 and e-5008, but don’t be surprised if they’re identical to those in the 3008 range. That would mean a choice of 207 hp (210 PS) and 227 hp (231 PS) single-motor setups, plus a 316 hp (320 PS) bi-motor alternative for the EV. And for the ICE machines, there’ll be a 134 hp (136 PS) 1.2-liter mild-hybrid with at least one PHEV to follow. We’ll find out more in the coming months when Peugeot gives the e-5008 the full launch treatment.
