If you’re in the market for a new car in the United States and have a budget of $20,000, there are plenty of options out there. You could pick up an entry-level Hyundai Venue or Kia Soul or if you’re open to a sedan, options include the Nissan Versa, Kia Rio, and Subaru Impreza. Alternatively, you could spend $20,000 on this 2002 Ford Focus driven just 117 miles (188 km). Yep, you read that right.
The Focus in question has been listed up for sale through Centsible Auto Sales in Kalispell, Montana, and had once been in the inventory of a dealership by the name of Rygg Ford.
However, the dealer went bust sometime in the mid-2000s and the unsold stock was moved into storage. A property developer purchased the site that used to house Rygg Ford in 2022 and is looking to clear out the stock from the warehouse at the site.

The seller notes that this Focus has never been sold nor owned by a private party and that it had an original MSRP of $14,000, or $24,248 in today’s money. Despite this being a 22-year-old car, the car has an eye-watering asking price of $20,000 but the seller notes that he is open to offers.
Buying an old Focus for as much as a new Kia Soul doesn’t make much sense. Not only will the car need a comprehensive service before it hits the road but there’s a good chance many of the rubber trim pieces will need to be replaced.
In addition, images indicate that some panels may have hail damage, including the hood. Then there’s the fact that the cabin is extremely sparse and doesn’t even include air conditioning or a tachometer. Heck, the original dealer had to pay $350 extra for side airbags and $400 for ABS.
Powering the car is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder mated to a five-speed manual transmission driving the front wheels. Not the most appealing way to spend $20,000, then.
