It’s been less than a month since Volkswagen unveiled the new ID.7 Tourer and already, it has released the second model in the ID.7 estate range. The car is dubbed the ID.7 GTX Tourer and it has arrived alongside a new ID.3 GTX and possibly in the near future, an ID. Buzz GTX as well. So, what makes it special?
The key difference between the new GTX and the standard ID.7 Tourer is on the powertrain front. Underpinning the model is a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 86 kWh that provides support for charging speeds of up to 200 kW at high-speed chargers, allowing it to be charged from 10 to 80% in less than 30 minutes. This battery provides juice to a pair of electric motors that make this the most powerful VW estate car ever.

The front and rear motors combine to produce 335 hp (250 kW), a significant 54 hp (40 kW) gain over the regular rear-wheel drive ID.7 Tourer Pro. The front electric motor can kick into action in fractions of a second depending on power requirements and the driving scenario. Power is routed through electronic differential locks and all-wheel drive. While VW hasn’t published any acceleration figures, we’re sure the ID.7 GTX Tourer will feel very rapid. It tops out at 112 mph (180 km/h).
Complementing the upgraded powertrain is a sporty progressive steering system, stronger stabilizers, and an optional adaptive chassis control system. There is also an ESC Sport mode should drivers want to have some extra fun.
Subtle design touches
As you’d expect, a host of visual alterations differentiate the ID.7 GTX Tourer from the regular model. These include a new honeycomb grille and light graphics, high-gloss black accents, and new 20-inch wheels as standard. Those seeking to stand out a little more can opt for 21-inch alloy wheels.
Changes continue at the rear with a revised diffuser, new GTX lettering, and customizable 3D LED tail light clusters which include an illuminated Volkswagen badge. New to the GTX is a bright Kings red metallic finish created as a tribute to the paintwork of the first-generation Golf GTI. Buyers will also be able to order the new sporty estate in Glacier White Metallic, Scale Silver Metallic, Grenadilla Black Metallic, and Moonstone Grey Solid.
Found in the cabin are “ergonomically designed seats” with a GTX-specific design clad in a combination of fabric and ArtVelours Eco microfleece with red seams and red GTX letterings. VW also offers the GTX with bespoke ergoActive front seats complete with 12-way adjustment, a memory function, and adjustable thigh support. These seats also offer heated and ventilated functions and form part of the Interior Plus Package that also adds a 700-watt Harman Kardon sound system. A panoramic sunroof that can be made opaque or transparent at the touch of a button is also optional.

Other important features include an augmented reality head-up display, VW’s new IDA voice assistance with the integration of ChatGPT, and both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also includes the optional Park Assist Plus allowing for automatic parking, Connected Travel Assist which includes Lane Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control ACC, and Emergency Assist, as well as autonomous emergency braking and Dynamic Road Sign Display.
Volkswagen has not yet announced pricing for the ID.7 GTX Tourer but states that European pre-sales will commence in the spring. Similar to the regular ID.7 Tourer, the GTX variant will not be available in North America.
