The Mercedes-AMG GT lineup is slowly expanding as the company introduced an entry-level GT 43 earlier this week. It will soon be getting some company as spy photographers have caught a new variant that appears to be aimed at purists.

While details are limited, two different prototypes were recently spotted with an aggressive front bumper that has additional intakes for improved cooling. The cars also have lightweight wheels that are backed up by a high-performance braking system with bronze calipers.

One of the prototypes goes a step further as it wears components from the AMG Aerodynamics Package. It includes flics, a larger rear diffuser, and a fixed rear wing.

While the hardcore variant gives off some Black Series vibes, it’s believed the model won’t be that extreme. Instead, it could be a purist variant that adds power while losing weight.

Nothing is set in stone, but speculation suggests this could be a more powerful and rear-wheel drive version of the GT 63. That particular car has a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 producing 577 hp (430 kW / 585 PS) and 590 lb-ft (799 Nm) of torque. It enables the model to accelerate from 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.1 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 196 mph (315 km/h).

The prototype has also been pitched as a possible GT E Performance without the E. The former was previewed by a concept at last year’s IAA Mobility show and is a high-performance plug-in hybrid with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, a small battery pack, and an electric motor. This setup mirrors the SL 63 S E Performance and will give the car more than 789 hp (588 kW / 800 PS).

Regardless of what Mercedes has up their sleeve, this doesn’t appear to be a plug-in hybrid as it lacks a charging port on the rear bumper. This suggests it doesn’t have a hefty battery pack and would be significantly lighter than the GT E Performance.

All of this leaves us with more questions than answers, but it appears enthusiasts have plenty to look forward to.
