Just after the launch of the ID.3 GTX hot hatch and the ID.7 GTX hot wagon, Volkswagen announced the forthcoming debut of another sporty EV bearing the same moniker. The VW ID. Buzz GTX will be introduced during the Annual Press Conference 2024, set to be livestreamed on March 21.
Volkswagen was coy on details but published a dark teaser while confirming that a new “GTX word premiere” will take place at the event. The familiarity of the headlights was confirmed when we bumped up the brightness revealing the face of the ID. Buzz. However, the performance version sports a redesigned front bumper with triangular LEDs which are the new signature trait of GTX family.

Luckily for us, our spy photographers have already caught the VW ID. Buzz GTX during development testing. Interestingly, the prototype was not camouflaged, giving us a great idea of the styling updates. These include the redesigned bumper with a honeycomb intake, and the new five-spoke alloy wheels. The pictured prototype is based on the long-wheelbase variant of the ID. Buzz which measures 4,962 mm (195.4 in) long, compared to the 4,712 mm (185.5 in) of the standard model.
The VW ID. Buzz GTX will feature an AWD dual electric motor setup producing a combined 335 hp (250 kW / 340 PS) and allowing a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.4 seconds. The model could also benefit from a sharper chassis setup without compromising the family-friendly credentials.
Besides the premiere of the sporty minivan in the Annual Press Conference 2024, VW will also give us a “preview of what’s to come”, hinting at more announcements related to its future strategy.
