- This performance version of the G80 features an aggressive design, upgraded interior, and a rumored twin-turbo V6 engine with around 500 hp.
- It’s believed to be exclusively available in the United Arab Emirates, limited to just 20 units.
- At the New York Auto Show, Genesis also showcased the electric GV60 and GV80 Coupe SUV as Magma concepts.
Genesis unveiled a series of Magma-branded performance models at the New York Auto Show, including a wild version of the G80 sedan. However, this prospective competitor to the BMW M5 and the Mercedes-AMG E63 won’t be coming to North America and will instead be exclusively offered in the Middle East. A new report claims its availability will be limited to 20 units for the United Arab Emirates.
The Genesis G80 Magma Special showcased a distinctive orange hue first seen on the GV80 Coupe SUV concept last year. Notably, it comes equipped with a unique body kit featuring broader front and rear fenders, lending it a more sportier stance. Additionally, it also boasts enlarged bumper intakes, hood vents, and various carbon fiber accents at the front.

The rear end is adorned with a ducktail spoiler and a rear diffuser, housing dual tailpipes. Completing the look are 21-inch alloy wheels finished in satin gray, noticeably lowered compared to the stock version.
Inside, the Magma treatment includes black Alcantara upholstery with contrasting orange stitching, complemented by matching seatbelts and abundant carbon fiber accents throughout. Up front, motorsport-inspired Recaro bucket seats are paired with two separate heavily bolstered seats in the rear, creating a comfortable four-seater configuration.
Genesis has remained tight-lipped about the powertrain details of the G80 Magma Special. However, according to the KoreanCarBlog, it will be equipped with a twin-turbo V6 engine generating up to 500 horsepower (373 kW / 507 PS), while other reports have speculated even more power approaching the 600 hp mark.
In any case, we expect the model to offer a significant power boost over the standard 3.5-liter T-GDi V6 engine, which currently produces up to 375 horsepower (279 kW / 380 PS). However, it will be challenging for a non-electrified combustion engine to match the outputs of the upcoming BMW M5 and Mercedes-AMG E63 E Performance models, both of which will be plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).
The interior shots confirm that the vehicle is equipped with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, likely sending power to all four wheels. It’s also reasonable to expect that the performance flagship of the G80 lineup will boast a unique setup, including a lowered suspension, stiffened chassis, and sharper steering.
Besides the G80, other models from the Magma Performance Program exhibited in New York include the fully electric GV60, and the GV80 Coupe SUV – although both were labeled as “concepts”. Genesis also brought the stunning X Gran Berlinetta Vision GT Concept that inspired the series and might lead to a production halo model sometime in the future.
Hopefully, the rest of the Magma series will become available in more markets around the world. We’ve reached out to Genesis for comment and will update this story accordingly when they get back to us.
