The Nissan Group, which includes both the Nissan and Infiniti brands, started 2024 on a high note, with a combined sales figure of 252,735 vehicles in the United States. This success was partly driven by an aggressive sales push on key models like the Rogue. While some models experienced significant declines, others, like the Z sports car, surged ahead.
U.S. sales of the reborn Z coupe soared by 44%, climbing from 466 units in Q1 2023 to 671 units last quarter. While the numbers might not seem impressive at first glance, they propelled the Z well ahead of one of its prime competitors, the Toyota GR Supra, which saw a 45.9% decrease with 484 units sold for the quarter.

However, the outlook isn’t as bright for Nissan’s other sports car, the aging GT-R, as deliveries plummeted by 46.2% to a mere 77 units. With the GT-R nearing the end of its production run, this decline isn’t entirely unexpected.
Nissan Up, Infiniti Down
Overall, the Japanese group’s sales reached 252,735 units (including Infiniti) for Q1 2024, marking a 7.2% increase from the 235,818 units sold in Q1 2023. Last quarter’s sales comprised 238,831 Nissan models and 13,904 units from Infiniti. While sales from the Nissan brand jumped by 8.5%, Infiniti experienced a decline of 11.8%.
Through the first quarter of the year, the group’s best-selling model was unsurprisingly the Rogue, with 90,804 units sold, marking an 18.7% increase over the same period last year. Undoubtedly, Nissan’s bonus program to dealers, which provided incentives for each Rogue sold during the past month or so, helped drive additional sales.
As far as sedans are concerned, the Sentra emerged as the brand’s best-seller with 40,081 units delivered, marking a 78% increase over the previous quarter. This surge allowed it to overtake the Altima, which experienced a 12.9% decline in sales, dropping from 32,832 units to 28,583 units in Q1 2024. Additionally, demand for the affordable Versa also saw a significant rise, with 91.6% more examples sold during January, February, and March of 2024, totaling 7,474 units.

Plenty of other Nissan models enjoyed a boost in deliveries for the quarter. These included the all-electric Ariya, with sales climbing 44.8% to 4,142 units, while sales of the Kicks and Frontier rose by 16% and 16.6%, respectively. However, demand for other models dropped; the Pathfinder saw a 20% decrease in units sold, and the Armada experienced a sales plummet of 45.3%.
As for Infiniti, with the exception of the Q50 (+2.3%) and the QX50 (+10.3%), every other model in their range recorded a decline in sales.
