- Go Fast Camper’s rooftop camper costs an eye-watering $9,450.
- The company is working to ensure the R1T’s OEM tonneau cover still works.
- A topper developed for the electric pickup costs $4,999.
The Rivian R1T is marketed as an electric vehicle for those with an adventurous spirit but it has not been available with a rooftop tent design specifically for it. That has now changed.
Earlier this month, Go Fast Campers announced it is working on a platform topper and a platform camper for the electric pickup. The topper sits on top of the truck’s bed and creates a large storage area away from the elements. All three sides of the topper can be opened and while Go Fast Campers hasn’t mentioned what materials it is using, it looks very sturdy.

The second piece is the camper itself. It is mounted using four tie-down brackets into the bed and sits on the topper while also stretching over the rear half of the R1T’s roof.
The company says the top of the camper is made from a white honeycomb composite to reflect solar radiator and provide insulation. The camper has also been designed to support plenty of weight, meaning it can double as a roof rack when not in use. Work is also being done to ensure the camper doesn’t block the shark fin antenna to ensure the pickup can still receive over-the-air software updates. It is also looking to ensure the R1T’s OEM tonneau cover, tailgate, and gear tunnel features remain functional.
Go Fast Campers says the camper costs $9,450 while the topper adds $4,999 with an additional $300 installation fee. That’s a heck of a lot of money but both components increase the versatility of the truck and could make it perfect for off-the-grid adventures and camping trips. $100 refundable deposits are open with plans to start building the toppers and campers in August. Buyers will also be able to configure certain elements, like the colors of the panels used.
