- This is our first look at the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor
- It will be a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx
- Toyota’s smallest SUV in India will come with gasoline and mild-hybrid powertrains
Toyota published the first teaser video of the upcoming Urban Cruiser Taisor – a rebadged Maruti Suzuki Fronx and the latest product of the extended collaboration between the two firms. Predictably, the model shares most of its components with the Suzuki sibling albeit with a few Toyota-specific styling features, similar to the strategy followed by the larger Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder twins.
The dark teaser reveals the new Urban Cruiser Taisor will feature LED graphics on the split headlights reminiscent of the Land Cruiser 300 Series. We can also see the new grille with the Toyota emblem, and the full-width LED taillights. The profile will be shared with the Suzuki, even though Toyota might add new 17-inch wheels alongside the redesigned front and rear bumpers.

Inside, the subcompact SUV will inherit the dashboard of its sibling, including the 9-inch infotainment, analog instrument cluster, head-up display, and wireless charging pad.
With a length close to the 3,995 mm (157.3 inches) of the Suzuki Fronx, the Urban Cruiser Taisor will be Toyota’s smallest SUV offering, closely matching the Japanese-market Toyota Raize, while being smaller than the 4,180 mm (164.6 inches) of the EU-spec Toyota Yaris Cross.
The company hasn’t revealed any powertrain details yet, but the shared underpinnings suggest they will mirror those of the Suzuki. The naturally aspirated 1.2-liter gasoline engine sourced from the Baleno produces 89 hp (66 kW / 90 PS), while the more potent turbocharged 1.0-liter features mild-hybrid assistance and makes 99 hp (74 kW / 100 PS). In both cases, power is transmitted to the front axle through manual or automatic transmissions.
Toyota says that the Urban Cruiser Taisor will be revealed soon. According to Autocar India, the price announcement is expected on April 3rd. The same publication suggests that the first deliveries in India will commence in late April or early May, citing dealer sources. It is not clear if Toyota will export the SUV to other markets since it already has similar-sized offerings in the subcompact segment.
