- Hennessey has managed to extract 1,043 hp and 850 lb-ft from the F-150 Raptor R’s 5.2-liter supercharged V8
- The Ram 1500 TRX used in these races is a stock example with 702 hp and 650 lb-ft
- The Texas tuner also sells a 1,000 hp upgrade package for the Ram
The Ford F-150 Raptor R is the new king of high-performance pickup trucks and while the standard model is already hugely impressive, Hennessey Performance has made it even more outrageous with the VelociRaptor 1000 package.
The tuner took off the covers to its VelociRaptoR 1000 in late 2022 and to show just how quick it is, it lined it up against a standard Ram 1500 TRX for a series of drag races. Of course, this isn’t a fair fight as Hennessey’s Raptor R has been boosted to deliver 1,043 hp and 850 lb-ft (1,152 Nm) while the TRX is stock, meaning it’s “capped” at just 702 hp and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm). Nevertheless, it’s always cool to see hugely powerful pickup trucks racing each other.

With 200 lb-ft (271 Nm) of extra torque, the modified Raptor R launches off the line with even more ferocity than the TRX and immediately establishes a sizeable lead. As the speeds build, it continues to pull away, leaving the Ram for dead. In a separate race, Hennessey gave the TRX a head start but not even that was enough to help it secure the win.
Things don’t go any better for the TRX in a rolling race as once again, the Ford proves to be far too powerful and easily wins.
Ram 1500 TRX owners shouldn’t rush to sell their pickups in favor of the VelociRaptor 1000, however. Hennessey offers a Mammoth 1000 package for the Ram that boosts its 6.2-liter supercharged V8 to 1,012 hp and 969 lb-ft (1,313 Nm), giving it a healthy torque advantage over the Ford. We have our fingers crossed that Hennessey will be able to line these two up against each other for some drag races as they should be very evenly matched.
