- The all-electric performance SUV will be driven by a BMX athlete and amateur drifter
- A 102 kWh battery pack and two electric motors deliver 500 hp and 544 lb-ft (737 Nm)
- A pair of Acura Integra models will compete at the event
The all-electric 2024 Acura ZDX Type S isn’t the type of vehicle you would normally associate with the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb but at this year’s Race to the Clouds, a ZDX Type S will serve as the official pace car.
Acura took off the wraps to the ZDX in August last year, introducing it in A-Spec and Type S guises. Both models are underpinned by GM’s Ultium platform and pack a 102 kWh battery pack. Powering the Type S is a pair of electric motors combining to deliver an estimated 500 hp and 544 lb-ft (737 Nm) of torque.

The sexy ZDX is the quickest crossover Acura has ever built and will be the brand’s tenth vehicle to serve as a pace car at Pikes Peak. In 2020, a prototype of the TLX Type S was used, while in 2015 the second-generation Acura NSX led the field up the mountain. This year, professional BMX athlete, car tuner, and amateur drifter Coco Zurita will be behind the wheel of the ZDX Type S.
The ZDX Type S features height-adjustable air suspension, performance dampers, and large six-piston front Brembo brakes to complement the potent powertrain, meaning it should be a solid all-round performer.

A pair of Acura Integras will compete at Pikes Peak. The cars are fielded by Acura and Honda Racing, and include an Integra Type S in the Time Attack 1 division and an Integra A-Spec in the Pikes Peak Open division.
Customer deliveries of the road-going ZDX kicked off earlier this month. The entry-level A-Spec RWD is available from $64,500, the mid-range A-Spec AWD starts at $68,500, and the flagship Type S is priced from $73,500. All three models are eligible for the full $7,500 federal EV tax credit.
