Police officers face a barrage of strange, hateful, and sometimes wildly inappropriate comments at their jobs. Part of that job though is making good decisions with sound judgment. In one instance from San Diego, it appears as though an officer makes a series of poor choices. A female suspect in his car allegedly propositioned him for sex… minutes later, he accidentally locked himself in his own car.

That now-former officer is Anthony Hair, who was driving a suspect from a scene to the Las Colinas Detention Center. Body cam footage from Hair shows that the two had a conversation around 1:17 a.m. on August 15, 2023. The suspect asks if he’s single to which Hair responds “yeah, but you’re not.” Her response is succinct. “I’m down to f*** right now,” she says.

Then, Hair tells her that everything is being recorded but minutes later he drives to a quiet residential street according to GPS. His body cam goes off and some twenty minutes later he was calling for help. Hair’s excuse for being in the back seat was that he was checking on the woman who he claimed had a medical incident.

According to NBC San Diego, Hair said he inadvertently closed the door on himself with his foot as he checked on the woman. “When I was waking her up, that’s when I noticed that this door closed on me. That’s when I was trying to kind of open the door,” he said. Notably, the suspect claimed that nothing inappropriate happened during the investigation into this incident.

Hair resigned roughly a month after the investigation began and a day before his interview with internal affairs. Despite that, the department found semen on Hair’s belt and falsified reports. As of this writing, it doesn’t appear as though Hair is facing any charges related to the incident.

In theory, he could still apply to any police department should he choose to. Police cars are capable of a great many things but this is the sort of alleged incident they certainly weren’t designed for.
