• A Ford Mustang sideswiped a Tesla Cybertruck and appears to have left with the brunt of the damage.
  • The Cybertruck left the incident with a few scuffs but not much else.
  • The Mustang driver left the scene without stopping to exchange insurance and is still unidentified.

Like other large pickup trucks, colliding with a Tesla Cybertruck can wreak havoc on regular cars. Time and time again we’ve seen the other vehicle involved end up with serious damage. In this instance, both vehicles drove away, but a fleeting encounter on the highway left a Ford Mustang limping away with a Cybertruck tire mark tattooed onto its exterior.

The incident involved YouTubers from The Megawatts channel. They were traveling in the fourth lane of a five-lane highway when the Mustang collided with them. Video feeds from various angles of the Tesla provide a clear depiction of the events.

The Mustang comes up behind the Tesla and then moves to overtake on the right side. Consider that error number one. The driver’s second mistake comes as they near the end of the overtake. Instead of getting truly clear of the slab-sided pickup, they move into lane four far before actually passing the truck. That happens in part because there’s no room to pass completely. A tanker truck blocks the Mustang but the driver tries the move anyway.

The contact is brief but the impact appears jarring. The Ford driver immediately retreats to his own lane and the Cybertruck moves into lane three. The Mustang then pops into lane four and drives away at speed with damage visible on its side. A Cybertruck tire mark is stamped into the paint, but it’s hard to see how much of a dent the truck made on the convertible.

On the other hand, the damage to the Cybertruck is almost non-existent. It had a paint protection film already on the super-hard sheet metal. It was damaged but beyond that, the truck appears unscathed. There are a couple of scratches through the film and then very tiny blemishes on the fenders. Beyond that, the vehicle looks good.

According to The Megawatts, they’re still trying to track down the driver of the Mustang. Commenters online might have found them to a degree though. They’ve evidently tracked down the last time it was registered, serviced, and bought. Hopefully, that info will lead to the driver being held accountable.
