While the first entry from Mercedes-Benz’s ‘Mythos’ series of models was expected to debut in 2025, a new report claims it will be shown to select customers this June before a grand reveal later this year.
Mercedes has teased the new vehicle on a couple of occasions. It will take the form of a limited-edition SL Speedster and be adorned with Maybach branding. The car was first previewed in May 2022 and it’s expected to be based around the existing SL 63 4Matic+.

Autocar recently viewed invitations sent to customers for a private unveiling of the vehicle at the Mercedes Center of Excellence in Sindelfingen, Germany. This invitation reveals the car will be showcased between June 6-8 and describes it as an “open vehicle concept with an extremely low silhouette, without a roof or windscreen, and featuring a motorsport halo roll protection system and requiring the use of a helmet for a high-speed driving experience”.
Unlike the standard SL, the new Mythos model will not be a 2+2, and sitting in the place of the rear seats will be shapely buttresses and the roll protection system.
It’s unclear how many examples of the Mythos are bound for the production line but it’s reasonable to assume there won’t be many. When Mercedes first announced the Mythos series a couple of years ago, it said its creations would only be available to “the most dedicated enthusiasts and collectors of Mercedes-Benz.”
All examples bound for production are expected to feature highly customizable exteriors and interiors, so no two will be the same. With this exclusivity should come a serious jump in the price of the car compared to a regular SL.
