- The new aero parts for the Civic Type R boost the hot hatch’s downforce by 25%.
- Mugen has also developed several interior parts for the car, including a carbon fiber center console.
- It’s unclear if these parts will be available beyond Japan.
Mugen has announced a series of aerodynamic upgrades for the Honda Civic Type R that’ll soon be available throughout Japan. The release of these parts comes more than a year since most of them were previewed with a special concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January 2023.
The most obvious change made to the potent hot hatch is the fitment of a redesigned rear wing. This wing, priced at 308,000 yen (~$1,980) and set to be available in late September, has carbon fiber endplates and can be manually adjusted. Complementing this wing is a new front chin spoiler that’ll set back shoppers 110,000 yen (~$710) finished in Berlina Black or 99,000 yen (~$640) when left unpainted. Mugen recommends installing both the front chin spoiler and the rear wing to optimize downforce balance.

Elsewhere, the Civic Type R can be ordered with new rear side splitters to complement the standard diffuser. These splitters cost 99,000 yen (~$640) when painted or 80,000 (~$515) if unpainted. Completing the bodywork upgrades are front bumper garnishes that cost 77,000 yen (~$500). The aero changes boost downforce by a claimed 25%.
Mugen hasn’t called it a day with the aero add-ons. The car now includes 19-inch forged aluminum wheels that are lighter than the standard wheels and can be ordered with new racing nuts and lock nuts. These wheels were developed with BBS and cost 176,000 yen (~$1,100) per corner.
Honda Civic Type R owners can also order some special interior parts. For example, a new carbon fiber center console is available for 71,500 yen (~$460) as is a new Alcantara shift knob that costs 22,000 yen (~$142). Honda already ships its flagship hot hatch with some of the finest seats out there but Mugen is also offering new Recaro bucket seats that cost 297,000 yen (~$1,900) for a pair.
You’ll no doubt notice this Civic Type R also features special LED taillights and a single tailpipe but these parts aren’t ready to be released just yet. A new carbon fiber steering wheel is also in the works.
