Data from the automotive industry indicates a slowing in EV sales. Every carmaker deals with that sort of news in their own way but for Rivian, it looks like some price cuts are part of the plan. They affect both the R1T and R1S but are restricted to current inventory. For those interested in either, these discounts are sure to be welcome news.
The R1T sees the biggest discount on the 2024 MY Dual Motor version with the Large Battery. That trim used to add $9,100 to the purchase price but now only adds $3,100, representing $6,000 in savings. The 2023 MY Performance Dual Motor trim is now a free option making it $5,000 cheaper than it was previously. Again, these prices are specific to Rivian’s current inventory. Those who go into the configurator will still see the full price.

The R1S also has some discounts but they’re not as lucrative. The Max Battery pack add-on now costs $15,100 instead of $19,100. That applies to both the 2023 and the 2024 model years. Those interested in the quad motor powertrain or the large battery upgrade can now get either, individually, for $2,000 less than previously, says DriveTeslaCanada.
The prices below show the percentage drop in each trim and option range. It’s not very often that we see any brand cut 60-100 percent of the cost of an upgrade out. Still, it’s one of the big benefits of buying from a company with a direct-sales model.
Canadian customers can also get in on the deals as Rivian has slashed prices there too. Discounts more heavily apply to 2023 model year R1Ts and R1Ss there though. Either way, it appears as though Rivian’s plan for increasing sales is to simply discount prices and see if it draws more customers. That’s the same strategy that several other automakers looking to shift EVs have employed including Tesla and Ford.
