- A real-world crash shows off how the Tesla Cybertruck handles a heavy impact to its side.
- Both doors caved, airbags deployed, and the state of the battery is unknown.
- Reports say that the only occupant at the time, the driver, suffered minor injuries.
When a vehicle marketed as incredibly tough gets into its first major wreck it’s worthy of coverage and that’s what we have here. The Tesla Cybertruck incorporates what the brand calls an exoskeleton approach with a unique steel. We’ve seen it in fender benders, parking mishaps, and damage from self-inflicted incidents. This time though, it suffered a broadside impact.
The crash details are sparse but reports suggest that it happened near an airport. Evidently, the car that hit the Cybertruck was a Ford Edge. It’s unclear exactly how the two came together or who is ultimately at fault. It seems unlikely that anybody on the road could miss a Cybertruck simply based on its size and shape.

Whatever happened left the Cybertruck with two caved-in doors, shattered windows and deployed airbags. Pictures from the scene show that the Tesla was towed away. An impact strong enough to do the damage seen here could have also harmed the battery and motors. Notably, the Cybertruck does have a 5cm buffer zone on each side of the pack that might have saved it in this case.
The first to post about this incident is Dale Gribble on Facebook. There he says that the owner’s arm “took some damage” but that they’re “generally ok” otherwise. Gribble also posted a photo of the other vehicle allegedly involved and it doesn’t look great. What appears to be a Ford Edge has a completely ruined front end with no bumper cover to speak of. The crash structure appears to have soaked up a great deal of energy.
Somewhat surprisingly, the Cybertruck actually looks pretty good when compared to the other car. The doors certainly didn’t fare well but the rear and front fenders both appear almost untouched. Pictures of the Cybertruck on the tow truck also show that the roof remained intact during the crash. We’ve reached out to several people who claim to be connected to this crash and will update you here if we hear more about what happened.
