• A new official video may have just given us our initial peek at Tesla’s forthcoming Robotaxi, rumored to be called the Cybercab.
  • The vehicle(s) briefly showcased in the film feature a two-seater cabin without a steering wheel.
  • The aerodynamic exterior features two upward-opening doors, a sleek roofline, and covered rear wheels.

In a surprising move, Tesla may have provided us with a sneak peek of the upcoming Robotaxi, potentially named Cybercab, set to debut on August 8th. An official video reveals what could be the interior of the autonomous EV, featuring a two-seater layout, alongside a few sketches possibly hinting at its sleek shape.

However, it also seems to be, if not identical, eerily similar to a very early concept of the Robotaxi featured in the Walter Isaacson biography of Elon Musk released last year. At this point, we can’t be sure if it’s that early study or possibly a later iteration.

Regardless, the short video clip was published by Tesla on X (formerly Twitter) to promote two “especially important proposals” for its Annual Meeting of Stockholders. The highlight, of course, is the revealing teasers, appearing in quick, cut-off scenes among other Tesla products and Elon Musk’s quotes.

The official sketches depict an interior without a steering wheel and two pillowy bench-style seats. A large display mounted on the dashboard, reminiscent of the portrait-style infotainment touchscreen found in production Teslas, is also visible. Furthermore, the interior mockup suggests that the so-called ‘Cybercab’ could feature a glass roof and a spacious boot.

More sketches are visible in the background, revealing information about the exterior design. The significant revelation is the upward-opening doors, which would be a first for Tesla if indeed implemented, as this could just be a design exercise.

The mechanism appears to be a hybrid between Lamborghini’s scissor doors and McLaren’s butterfly doors. Additionally, we can distinguish the aerodynamic silhouette of the EV, including a sloping roofline and covered rear wheels, giving it a futuristic stance

Earlier in the video, there is a photo of the lower front bumper area, revealing Cybertruck-esque surfacing, a dark-finished bumper, and an integrated splitter. At this moment, it is hard to confirm if all these elements belong to the Cybercab / Robotaxi, as they could also depict Tesla’s other future projects.

The video also provided us with a glimpse of Tesla’s new ride-hailing application, which will likely be used to summon the robotaxi. The Cybercab is expected to be fully autonomous, utilizing an evolved version of Tesla’s Full-Self Driving system. Despite its name, the latter is a Level 2 ADAS that requires the driver to “pay attention to the road at all times and always be prepared to take immediate action.”

We’ll know more about Telsa’s next new EV, including whether these sketches and prototypes indeed depict the Robotaxi, at its official unveiling in August. At the event, Tesla is expected to announce the specifications of the EV and unveil the final design for both the exterior and interior.
