- Pablo Di Si says demand for the Atlas Peak Edition has been strong
- The character of each special edition will depend on the model
- A special version of the ID.Buzz could prove particularly popular
VW Group of America chief executive Pablo Di Si has revealed that the company is planning to release more special edition models like the recent Atlas Peak Edition.
The carmaker took off the covers to the 2024 Atlas Peak Edition at last year’s New York Auto Show. The model is marketed as a slightly more rugged version of the SUV and includes special body cladding, bespoke 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, and various matte silver accents. Di Si says this model has been selling extremely well, encouraging the brand to work on similar models in the future.

“What we agreed is that for these major product lineups coming up to have at least one special edition,” Di Si told Auto News in a recent interview. “It might be a Peak Edition in the Atlas. It might be called something different for an electric vehicle.”
Di Si noted that work on special models like the Peak Edition starts at the time of development of a new vehicle. While he didn’t say which new models will be the next to receive a unique version, he did say “the character of that special edition will depend on the vehicle.”
A vehicle like the new ID.Buzz seems like the perfect vehicle for a special edition. Last year, VW unveiled a special three-row version of the ID.Buzz in California known as the Accessories Concept. It came equipped with a Thule Caprock platform, a side awning, and an aftermarket modular kitchen and bed unit at the rear. It also had all-weather floor mats, a protection plate over the rear bumper, and a tablet holder. Given that VW believes the ID.Buzz can cater to those with an adventurous spirit, it would be logical for a more adventure-focused version to hit the market.
Of course, there’s no guarantee the next special edition model from VW will be as comprehensive as the ID.Buzz Accessories Concept and the changes made could be less significant.
