DS is working on a new fully electric crossover rumored to adopt the DS8 moniker. A camouflaged prototype of the EV was caught by our spy photographer during hot weather testing, giving us the first look inside its high-tech and premium-upholstered cabin.
The highlight of the interior is the new DS steering wheel with four X-shaped spokes, reminiscent of the futuristic DS M.i. 21 Manifesto concept. We can also see an inclined center console with a few physical buttons and a weird pattern that could be a touchpad. The digital cockpit is much smaller than in the concept, with dual elongated screens angled towards the driver. Finally, the blue-themed upholstery has a premium look, in line with the positioning of DS Automobiles within the Stellantis group.

We are already familiar with the exterior of the DS8, as a similarly camouflaged prototype was spotted during winter testing last February. The model has a crossover fastback body, similar to the Peugeot 408 and Citroen C5 X Stellantis counterparts.
The new DS8 is said to be inspired by the 2020 DS Aero Sport Lounge concept, although the styling has been significantly toned down for production. The slim LED headlights will most likely be combined with DS’s signature fangs. The long front overhang suggests that it rides on an FWD-derived architecture, while the tail is more curved than any of the brand’s existing models.
Unlike the similarly-proportioned Peugeot 408 and the Citroen C5 X which ride on EMP2 underpinnings, the DS8 will be based on the newer STLA Medium architecture, featuring a fully electric powertrain. The platform is compatible with single and dual electric motors, offering from 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS) up to 382 hp (285 kW / 387 PS).
DS has pledged that all models to be introduced from this year on will be “exclusively 100% electric”. However, there is always a chance of a PHEV-powered option to be added to the DS8 lineup later on, as an answer to the global BEV slowdown.
The latest information suggests that the debut of the DS8 will take place before the end of the year.
