• Mercedes-AMG is working on a high-performance C-Class EV.
  • A prototype was recently spied undergoing testing with canards and lightweight wheels.
  • The high-performance sedan could arrive for the 2026 or 2027 model year.

Spy photographers have caught the C-Class EV on multiple occasions, but now we’re getting a look at the AMG variant. While the prototype looks pretty familiar at first glance, there are a few clues that hint at its high-performance powertrain.

The most obvious are lightweight wheels that are backed up by a beefy braking system with bronze calipers. The prototype also appears to be sitting lower to the ground, indicating it may be equipped with a sport-tuned suspension.

Additional changes are limited, but we can see a wide lower intake that is flanked by canards. The car also sports an extended rear spoiler.

Besides a handful of unique touches, the model closely echoes its mainstream counterpart. As a result, it has flush-mounted door handles, an upward sweeping beltline, and a greenhouse that mimics the EQE and EQS.

Spy shooters didn’t get close enough to snap interior photos, but previous images have revealed the C-Class EV will have an MBUX Hyperscreen-inspired display that is nearly vertical and appears to span the entire width of the cabin. The model is also slated to have an in-cabin camera as modern Mercedes vehicles are more focused on TikTok and Zoom than luxury or style.

Putting that disappointing reality aside, the C-Class EV will have slender air vents and a stylish three-spoke steering wheel. We can also expect a minimalist design that largely eschews physical switchgear.

Little else is known about the car at this point, but it’s slated to ride on the MB.EA-Small platform which is more advanced than the Mercedes Modular Architecture that will underpin the CLA EV. Given that this is an AMG variant, we can likely expect a dual-motor all-wheel drive system. While that’s not much to go on, the photographer estimated it had at least 700 to 800 hp.
